Strabismus is a misalignment of the eyes. One eye may turn in or out or be higher or lower than the other. Four percent of children and adults have this condition. Six muscles control the motion of each eye and all the muscles of both eyes must work and coordinate with each other. Surgery to move the eye muscles is done in the operating room under general or local anesthesia.
